Another year is coming to an end - a year of many ups and downs. In January, there were hopes around the globe for a return to normal. In the recent weeks, Europe is speeding towards new lockdowns and restrictive measures to fight the pandemic. Last-minute cancellations of trade fairs felt more like the prior year.

Robot Density nearly Doubled globally

The use of industrial robots in factories around the world is accelerating at a high rate: 126 robots per 10,000 employees is the new average of global robot density in the manufacturing industries – nearly double the number five years ago (2015: 66 units).

“Service Robots” Hit Double Digit Growth Worldwide

The market for professional service robots reached a turnover of 6.7 billion U.S. dollars worldwide (sample method) – up 12% in 2020. At the same time, turnover of new consumer service robots grew 16% to 4.4 billion U.S. dollars.

Robot Sales Rise again

The World Robotics 2021 Industrial Robots report shows a record of 3 million industrial robots operating in factories around the world – an increase of 10%. Sales of new robots grew slightly at 0.5% despite the global pandemic, with 384,000 units shipped globally in 2020.

IERA Award 2022 - Apply until 28 February 2022

IFR and IEEE/RAS are looking for applicants for the next Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Robotics and Automation Award (IERA Award). The presentation will be hosted on 20 June 2022 at the International Symposium on Robotics.

ISR Europe 2022 - submit paper by 14 February 2022

The 54th International Symposium on Robotics will be held again in Munich, Germany on June 20-21, 2022 (in parallel to the Automatica exhibition). The call for papers just started.
